The Payne's spent this weekend celebrating Samuel's birthday. His real birthday is on Monday, but it worked better to do birthday celebrating a little early. We enjoyed a round of mini-golf (Nathanael actually got a hole-in-one, with a little help from mom), dinner at Burger King, and baseball cupcakes. Below you will find a couple of video clips. Ranger Camp 2009
It was that time of year again. Ranger Camp! I took Levi and Samuel to Spencer Lake for the annual camp. We had a great time. The boys had a great time with competitive games (they both earned medals), playing with friends, worshiping God during the evening services and spending time with dad.

VBS
“Let my people go!” I must have heard that about 40 times from more than 100 kids on Tuesday morning. Our church hosted its annual VBS this week and I had the opportunity to play the part of Pharaoh. Since we wanted to make it as authentic as possible (we wanted to give Yul Brynner a run for his money) I wore the Pharaoh hat, the Pharaoh clothes (and it’s not a skirt or a dress) and the Pharaoh ‘guyliner’.
My role during VBS was actually very small, since it only required my time on Tuesday morning. As the director of the preschool portion of VBS, Cari had a very active role during the week. She and the kids were out the door by 8:00 am every morning to get ready for the kids that were coming to participate in VBS.
It just wouldn’t be a good VBS without a challenge for the kids to raise money, and for the leaders to do something a little crazy when the goal was met (when I was a kid it was always someone getting a pie in the face). With VBS being set in a southern bayou, the crazy thing was to eat alligator meat if the kids met their goal. The kids surpassed their goal and Cari was one of the ‘lucky’ ones that got to eat alligator meat. I find it funny that she said, “it actually tasted like chicken”. For those on Facebook you should be able to find a video of her eating the alligator meat.

Only Two Kids at Home for 5 Days
It's been almost four years since we have had only two kids in the house. This past week Levi and Samuel went to visit Nanny & Papa Payne. We forgot how much easier it is when there is a 1-to-1 parent to kid ratio. We missed the two oldest and look forward to their return later today, but we did enjoy spending more time with Josiah & Nathanael.

Baseball, T-Ball, & Funny Faces
It wouldn't be summer without America's pastime: Baseball. This year Levi is playing baseball (coach pitch) and Samuel is playing t-ball. Chris has gone back to coaching t-ball, something he thought he wouldn't do again, and is having a lot of fun with it. It takes quite a bit of patience to coach (and watch) t-ball. Those in the pitch league have the basics down, while the t-ball kids are still learning where to run when the ball is hit.
Nanny & Papa Payne were in town to watch the boys play this week. Since Nanny has such a nice camera she took a lot of good pictures.
After the game the boys had fun making funny faces for Nanny and she got quite a few good shots.

4th of July Weekend
The Payne's enjoyed a 4th of July weekend filled with food and fireworks. The 4th of July menu consisted of brats, hot dogs, watermelon, corn on the cob, chips & taco dip, and ice cream cones.
Cari spend much of her 4th of July weekend refinishing some chairs, while Levi rested a bit after losing his big toe nail earlier in the week.
